How do I protect my Credit from invasion

Question: > I keep getting, as I’m sure many people are, offers for all > sorts of credit cards, home equity loans, debt consolidation, > and on and on and on……

> I would think that these institutions would make such offers to > people who they view as having a low risk and high likelihood of > repaying, right? So that to me would mean that they are snooping > around my credit reports without my consent !!

> Who do I contact to inform them that my credit info may not be > released without my written consent, and how should such letters > be worded.

Answer: You can always “opt-out” of being pre-screened to receive special offers from credit card companies by contacting the credit reporting bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). However, I wouldn’t recommend doing this. You’ll miss out on the “teaser-rate” offers. Though I rarely carry balances, I cant see paying 18-21 percent on a card when other companys make it too easy to switch to a card with a much lower rate.

I wouldn’t be to concerned about the privacy issue. You are nothing more than a series of “0″’s and “1″’s to the credit bureau’s computer. Your name, as well as countless millions of others, is on a list that is being sold to hundreds of companys on a regular basis for the primary purpose of making money. Besides, if anyone really wants to poke around in your personal or financial affairs, they can do it in too many ways to list…but that’s another story (or thread)!
