Question: 1) I didn’t have a site or any wedding vendors booked; > 2) I hadn’t asked a soul in town about changing my name; > 3) I hadn’t told anyone in town (that I know of) who works > for this bank or any other bank; > 4) I haven’t gone to any of those wedding show thingumbobbers. > (Don’t intend to, either.)
Answer: Have you subscribed to a wedding magazine, or answered a survey that asked if you were getting married ‘in the next x months’? (I got a ‘consumer’ survey that asked that.) Have you applied for credit together anywhere, applied for a home loan together, ring shopped together, and used a credit card? How about a wedding registry – like at Target, or another department store? My roomate and I have a joint credit card – we’re not married, not planning on getting married, but somehow, I’ve ended up having his last name on quite a bit of mail. Applied for the marriage license yet? (It’s possible that the county sells this info, just like the DMV sells the info about what make and model of car you own.)
Have you bought a wedding planning book, or magazine from a place like Barnes and Nobles using a credit card? Companies can and do track buying info about their patrons, and I wouldn’t doubt that they’d sell it, if it turned a profit.
Once I filled out a contest form that was in the baby department at a local department store (I was shopping for a gift.) and got ‘congratulations on your new baby’ stuff for months!
