Question: According to the sources I’ve checked, Chapter 13 won’t affect my cosigner (but I could be wrong on this), if I’m paying a partial amount in good faith. I was looking into this, rather than 7, which is out of the question. I have a few occupations I deem unuseful myself, but won’t include > them here. Everyone has a place somewhere, and > although I do the same, it’s probably not appropriate to declare > someone’s training useful vs. unuseful. Answer: This reminds me of my sister-in-law. She got a master’s in theater, then spent 10 years struggling to make it in the biz. The straw that broke the camel’s back came when she had a medical emergency that required hospitalization, only to discover (after the bills came in) that her employer hadn’t been paying her health insurance premiums. After she got that mess straightened out, she went back to college (in her 30’s) and got a degree in computer science. She now has a good job at a high tech firm, and has discovered that programming can be an outlet for creativity too. The reason your artist friends and you had to learn another skill is because your degrees are totally worthless.
Whereas before I thought you were a reasonable person, I now see that you are bordering on insanity. I think that you have an entitlement complex, act like a spoiled brat, and deserve everything you get with your loan. It can only be karma coming back to get you. I am glad that no matter what happens you will be forced to deal with the consequences of your actions in some way. Who knows, a miracle might happen and you’ll actually take responsibility for what is ALL YOUR FAULT.
Just know that what happens are not the world out to get you, it will be directly a result of the following choices that you made 100% of your own free will. You chose to: 1) Take out loans to attend an expensive college 2) Major in an arts degree for a career that is very hard to get into, and most likely would not make you enough to pay for these college loans. 3) Live in NYC in a single $900 a month apartment. 4) Consolidate your loans. 5) Not pay on your loans for 6 months. 6) Not get a waitress job or something else temporarily to help pay the bills for several various excuses, none of which hold much water.
Maybe in the financial aid newsgroup you will get sympathy, but don’t come into the frugal chat group and expect these people to feel sorry for the situation you have gotten yourself into. You have clearly made several very un-frugal choices in your life, and are now feeling the backlash from these. More than likely, eventually we who really are frugal will end up having to pay for your lifestyle. Because we can and you can’t. Frugality can sometimes be about having pride enough to not want things if we cannot afford them and know other people will be stuck with the bill. But, then again, what would you know about frugality?
